PRODUCTION OF LUBRICATING OIL ADDITIVE AND LUBRICATING OIL COMPOSITION CONTAINING THE SAME

PURPOSE:To obtain a lubricating oil additive useful as a cleaning dispersant by adding a branched fatty acid-containing aliphatic carboxylic acid to a solution of a perbasic alkaline earth metallic salt of an aromatic carboxylic acid, mixing both and then removing the solvent and insoluble substances. CONSTITUTION:(A) An aromatic carboxylic acid having preferably an 8-30C alkyl group is mixed with (B) an alkaline earth metallic (hydr)oxide in an amount of >=1 equiv. based on the component (A) in a hydrocarbon and/or a hither alcohol solvent and CO2 is then introduced to provide a solution of a perbasic alkaline earth metallic salt. (C) An aliphatic carboxylic acid containing preferably an 8-80C branched fatty acid in an amount of 0.01-10 equiv. based on the component (A) is added to the aforementioned solution and mixed at 80-250 deg.C and the solvent is subsequently distilled away from the resultant mixture solution. Insoluble substances are then removed to afford the objective basic compound.
