PURPOSE:To cap an ink discharge part, and thereby make sure that adequate suction power is easily secured in a recovery action process and subsequently, ensure that the reliability of a recovery device is improved and manufacturing cost is slashed by providing a mechanism by which to drive a cylinder with the movement of a carriage. CONSTITUTION:If a slide lever 24 is moved to the right with a carriage 2 by the abutment of the head abutment part 24a of a recording head, the cylinder drive part 24b of the slide lever becomes engaged with the engagement part 27b of a cylinder 27 to allow the cylinder 27 to rotate to the right, centered around its rotary shaft 27a, resisting the energization force of a cylinder spring 28. Thus a cap 29 connected directly to the cylinder 27 is located in front of the recording head 1 and consequently, an ink discharge part 51 is hermetically sealed by the cap 29. The cylinder 27 is equipped with a piston which travels horizontally, and the piston moves horizontally due to a cam surface provided on a pump cam 22. In turn, ink is sucked into the cylinder 27 from the discharge orifice of the recording head 1 through the cap 29 which is now in a capping state, and then is discharged. |
