PURPOSE:To obtain a dense silicon carbide sintered compact in a steramlined manner through simplification of sintering aid mixing process by adding carbon to borosilicate glass followed by heating. CONSTITUTION:Firstly, 0.1-10wt.% of a boron oxide (e.g. boron oxide powder) is added to a silica source (e.g. silica rock powder for silica glass) and molten in a hydrogen gas atmosphere at 1500 deg.C for 3hr to form a borosilicate glass. Carbon (e.g. purified carbon black, <=10ppm in the total impurity content) and acetone are then added to the powder of saide glass and mixed and dried. Then, reaction under heating at 1000-2000 deg.C in an argon gas atmosphere is carated out, thus obtaining the objective boron-dissolved silicon carbide. |
