The invention focuses upon a device which prevents unlawful occupancy of a caravan or trailer and ensures that the trailer is kept coupled to the vehicle during travel. The device is formed by a locking bolt, the working of which is based upon the fact that the coupling device is locked to the tow bar 6 of the caravan or trailer. The coupling device can be locked, when the trailer is coupled to the tow bar of the vehicle, such that the trailer cannot be released from the tow hook of the vehicle, or when the trailer is uncoupled from the tow bar of the vehicle, such that the trailer cannot be coupled to the tow hook of any other vehicle. The locking is effected by means of a conventional padlock 2, which is locked shut between the body part 1 of the locking bolt and the grip 4 of the coupling device, so that the body part 1 and base part 3 of the locking bolt make it impossible to lift up the grip 4 of the coupling device and thereby open the coupling device. <IMAGE>
