PURPOSE: To realize extensive encoding by substituting continuous data groups in one block for a code containing the number of the data groups in a continuous part and executing similar substitution when a difference signal with the data group of the same position of a preceding block satisfies a prescribed condition. CONSTITUTION: In the step 109 of a series of procedures, the continuous data groups of a pixel in a raster line is substituted for the run length code containing the number of the data groups in the continuous part. Substitution is executed by the similar code at the time of approximation according to whether the difference with the data group of the same position of the preceding raster line is approximated to the position in such a way that it satisfies a linear relation. The preceding line is made into the run length code by combining it with the run length code of one line in parallel. In a step 114, the effective code is selected. Thus, a series of multiple pixels having the same value in the direction of a column are extensively encoded by the method and image data is much more compressed. |
