PURPOSE:To provide a rare gas discharge lamp lighting device capable of reducing dissipation of rare gas during lighting and to heighten a brightness maintenance rate. CONSTITUTION:An inner electrode 4 consisting of cold cathode is provided inside a bulb 1, in which rare gas is sealed while providing an outer electrode 5 outside and impressing high-frequency voltage between these inner electrode 4 and outer electrode 5 from a high-frequency lighting circuit 10 in order to light up a lamp. In this rare gas discharge lamp device, the high-frequency lighting circuit 10 is so constituted that an effective value of a current flow toward the outer electrode may be smaller than an effective value of a current flow toward the inner electrode. In a lamp current, an effective value Ii of the lamp current flow from the outer electrode toward the inner electrode is larger as compared with effective value Io of the lamp current flow from the inner electrode toward the outer electrode so that a rate of rare gas ions to be shot into a glass wall is reduced so as to be capable of preventing dissipation of rare gas and to maintain high brightness extending a long time. |
