PURPOSE:To make an image outputting speed in the case of consecutively outputting plural sheets of monochrome image higher in an electrophotographic copying device by which a color image is formed. CONSTITUTION:In the case of forming the color image, an image forming starting timing is estimated by a start signal A generation part 15a by setting a detection signal 21 from an intermediate transfer body reference position detecting means 10 as reference, and image forming is started according to a start signal A. In the case of forming a monochrome image, the image forming starting timing is estimated by a start signal B generation part 15b regardless of the detection signal 21 from the means 10 and image forming is started according to a start signal B.
