PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium excellent in preservation stability by incorporating an aromatic tetracarboxylic anhydride into the magnetic layer of the medium. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic layer contg. a magnetic metal powder and a binder is provided on a nonmagnetic substrate to constitute the magnetic recording medium, and the magnetic layer contains an aromatic tetracarboxylic anhydride. Fe, Co, Ni, Fe-Co, etc., are used for the magnetic metal powder, and such elements as Al, Si and Ti can be further added. The specific surface of the powder is controlled to >=40m<2>/g to attain high-density recording, short-wave recording, etc. A vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymer, a vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate-vinyl alcohol copolymer, etc., are exemplified as the binder. |
