The present invention relates to a method of managing line distributors with an auxiliary cable, as well as novel line distributors, connectors and auxiliary cables for implementing this method. By virtue of the presence, on each auxiliary cable 14 linking two fixed connectors 3, 5 of a line distributor, of a linking means 16 for identification of the connection formed by the cable, which is provided in addition to a linking means 15 between two lines 8, 10 connected to the said fixed connectors, a control means 20 can draw up the list of connections formed in the line distributor. The invention also allows simple and rapid identification of a chosen connector, by virtue of optical signalling means 32. <IMAGE>
