PURPOSE:To provide an image forming device by means by which a high quality image can be steadily obtained. CONSTITUTION:The device is provided with a pressure varying means 72 for varying the pressure of a developer layer thickness regulating member 25 against a developing sleeve 22, a voltage varying means 73 for varying a voltage applied to the developing sleeve 22, supplied-developer layer thickness detecting means 51 and 52 for detecting the thickness of a supplied-developer layer formed on the developing sleeve 22, residual developer layer thickness detecting means 51 and 52 for detecting the thickness of a layer of developer remaining on the developing sleeve 22 after forming a basic latent image on an image carrier 10 to be developed an arithmetic means for calculating the amount of development and development efficiency based on the detected supplied-developer layer thickness and residual developer layer thickness and a means for controlling the pressure varying means 72 and the voltage varying means 73 based on the supplied-developer layer thickness detected by the supplied-developer layer thickness detecting means 51 and 52 and the quantity of development and the development efficiency which are calculated by the arithmetic means. |
