The illumination module (1) is modulated on a circuit board (5). Contact elements (9) are mounted between the circuit board and display windows (3). The LCD is illuminated both with daylight (21,22) that passes through the window to be reflected off a rear layer (17) and by artificial light (23,24) from a light bulb (4). The surrounding surfaces of the illumination module are finished with a matt surface and the unit is produced of a plastic providing high optical transmission.
