The optical treatment appts. uses a light beam which is regulated by a control unit (20) and fed to a supply unit via a fibre-optic cable (8). An optical relay (2) is coupled to the main optical appts. and to the supply unit. A second control unit (45) is provided for the optical relay. Optical communications devices in the main appts. (12-17) and the relay (39-44) transmit and receive optical signals. An optical system (6,7,30-32) couples the optical signals transmitted via the fibre-optic cable, pref. using a bandpass filter. The treatment beam is pref. a semiconductor laser beam. ADVANTAGE - Reduced physical problems, e.g. cable damage. Has communications cable which is not influenced by electrostatic interference.
