The system is cleaned by a detachable cleaning tube (2). The cleaning tube is connected to the proximal end of a tube which is fitted inside the endoscope. The distal end of this internal tube extends beyond the distal end (5) of the endoscope and has a spray head (9) which has a number of small openings through which the cleaning liquid is sprayed on to the surfaces of the lenses (10) of the optical system. The cleaning tube (2) is connected to a pump (3) which is in turn connected to a vessel (4) which contains the cleaning liquid. ADVANTAGE - The device can be detached from the endoscope.
