A starch pulp, particularly advantageous for use in the production of paper and cardboard, is produced by preparing an aqueous starch suspension (at 1) with a concentration jet cooking of between 5 and 40% by weight, jet cooking (at 4) at a temperature of between 90 and 180 DEG C, injecting (at 7) the suspension at a temperature of between 20 and 100 DEG C into a primary flux of a coagulating agent with the ratio of the speed of the primary flux and the starch being greater than 1:30, and by subjecting the pulp to maturing (at 8) in its own mother liquors for a period of 1 to 4 hours at a temperature of between 20 and 40 DEG C. The coagulating agent is a solution of a salt such as ammonium sulphate. The resulting pulp comprises starch flakes which can be mixed with cellulose fibre for making paper or cardboard. The starch may be naturally-occurring types. <IMAGE>
