A compressor (14) driven by an electric motor (13) forces the refrigerant (10) through a condenser (12), expansion valve (15) and evaporator (11). A separate coolant circuit (20) contains a heat exchanger (21), electric heater (23) and pump (22) as well as the traction motor (24a) and battery (24b). The installation (30) is divided into two ducts (31a,31b) ventilated by a common fan (36). One duct (31a) contains the condenser (12) and heat exchanger (21) in close proximity; the other duct (31b) contains the evaporator (11). Flaps (32a) direct air to the passenger compartment (33) or atmos. (34). ADVANTAGE - Functionality is improved and constructional complexity reduced with evaporator and condenser installed in parallel ducts.
