<p>The flow control device replaces the operating part of existing household taps. Cylindrical body (7) is adapted to screw into a tap body, seal on the existing seat of the tap and be locked in place by a locknut (6). In a central bore in body (7), a stem (4) having a seating head and seal (9) at one end and a circlip (2) at the other is biased by a spring (3) so that the head seals against the body (7) in the direction of flow. A transverse outlet hole (10) in body (7) may be a selected size for a predetermined maximum flow rate. A handle (1) is connected by a left hand thread to body (7) and by turning anticlockwise opens the valve by pushing the stem (4) against the spring (3) and turning clockwise closes the valve by allowing the spring to seat the stem head. All parts except spring (3) and circlip (2) may be injection moulded from suitable plastic. The device provides limited flow rate, consistent closing and allows easy operation of the handle.</p> |
