A process is provided for fast and reliable phase synchronisation between a local carrier signal and a carrier signal in an amplitude and/or phase sampled received signal. The system has a base band processor (40) that generates an output that represents the phase difference between the carrier of the received signal and a voltage controlled oscillator (10). The signal is filtered (50) and controls the oscillator. The oscillator output connects with mixing stages (20,25) a phase shifter (15) and the base band processor to form a control loop for regeneration of the carrier of the input (U1).
