摘要 |
Gas turbines are driven by gases obtd. from the burning of combustible materials with concn. oxygen or with oxygen-enriched gas. Variations provide for the fuel used to be plastics waste; for such waste to be converted by extrusion, with or without removal of harmful gases, to plastic, pasty or oily masses and/or gases before entry, via a reaction chamber, into the turbine; for the fuel to be thermoplastics or polyolefins; and for the turbine to be driven by gases from the reaction between plastics waste, alone or mixed with other combustibles, in an oven with pure or highly concentrated oxygen, and for the turbine exhaust gases to be used for further energy recovery. USE/ADVANTAGE - Plastics waste can be burned to produce energy economicaly. A thermal efficiency of over 60% is obtainable. A public refuse-dump serving a population of about a million could, e.g, provide plastics waste for a gas-turbine/generator installation with a continuous output of 50 MVA.
