The latching element for locating an actuator rod in a vehicle transmission in a selected position consists of a ball indent device. This has a spring loaded (5) ball (3) that is pressed into an indent formed in the rod. The ball and spring are held in a cylindrical housing (1) with an insert (2) of an elastic material that is secured by a profiled lip (12) that is deformed to locate against a flange (13). The deformation is provided by a retaining ring (9) that is moved into position by an axial displacement. ADVANTAGE - Simple assembly. Low cost manufacture.
