A mixt. for the prodn. of building materials such as concrete, flooring screeds, plaster, granular material, shaped bricks, etc. with a greatly reduced specific gravity, consists of a mineral material and a hydraulic or chemical binder. The mixt. also contains a foaming agent as a very fine powder. The foaming agent is a fatty alcohol sulphate, a sodium salt, sodium lauryl sulphate or similar. Additives may be incorporated in the mixt. to obtain specific properties, e.g. fungicides, waterproofing agents. 10-40 % water (based on the dry mix) is added to form the mixt.. The amt. of foaming agent is 0.2-1 wt.% of the hydraulic binder. USE/ADVANTAGE - Micropores are formed in the material, the unit size of which can be controlled, due to a very fine distribution of the foaming agent on stirring during the prepn. of the material. The foamed material produced, e.g. a flooring screed, is easily workable. Water penetration in the finished article is prevented due to the micropore structure. If a waterproofing agent is added to the mixt., subsequent waterproofing is unnecessary.
