A stretch film sealing and packaging apparatus (10) comprises a product infeed (10a), a film dispenser (10b), a film forming section (10c), a longitudinal sealer (10d), and a cross sealer (10e). The product (11) is conveyed to the film forming section (10c) where film (20) from the film dispenser (10b) is formed around the product (11). The longitudinal sealer (10d) then forms a lap seal in the film (20) at the bottom of the product (11), and the cross sealer (10e) forms cross seals at the front and rear of the product (11). The need for large flaps of film folded over the product (11) to prevent leakage is eliminated by the cross seals, thereby conserving film (20). |
