This invention provides an industrial cassette recorder including means for removing a cassette undamaged in the event of the failure of an electrical supply. Mechanical means are provided to automatically move a loading means to an unloaded position and to release a pinch roller, and an electric motor is utilised as a generator to facilitate take up of slack tape.
