PURPOSE:To obtain a novel method for preparing a catalyst used in the case of producing metacrolein and methacrylic acid by gaseous phase oxidation of isobutylene or tertiary butanol. CONSTITUTION:A method for preparing a catalyst is constituted by adding a high molecular organic compound having 0.01-10mum mean particle diameter, especially polymethyl methacrylate and/or polystyrene before molding of a Mo-Bi-Fe-Co-Ni-based catalyst and molding the mixture and heat-treating the molding.
