PURPOSE:To readily produce an oxide superconductor having a high quality by preliminarily calcining a mixture of Y2O3, BaCO3 and CuO and substantially calcining the resultant precursor at a temperature below the preliminary calcination temperature in an oxygen atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:A mixture of Y2O3, BaCO3 and CuO is preliminary calcined to synthesize a precursor containing YBa2Cu3O7-x (0<=x<=1). Subsequently the precursor produced is substantially calcined at a temperature lower than the preliminary calcination temperature to provide the objective oxide superconductor. Since BaCO3 stable in air is empolyed as a Ba source for the YBa2Cu4O8 superconductive ceramic, a YBCO series oxide conductor free from the deviation of the composition can be obtained in a single phase. Also, since the process dispenses with a catalyst and the pulverizing process for the raw materials by a sol-gel method, the operation is simplified, the superconductor characteristics are stabilized and the method is advantageous for the improvement of productivity and the maintenance of the quality. |
