PURPOSE: To obtain a synergistic antimicrobial composition effective for control ling microorganisms by an active ingredient with an extremely low level, com bined with a well-known antimicrobial compound. CONSTITUTION: This composition is obtained by formulating (A) 1,2- benzisothiazolin-3-one of formula I with (B) iodopropargylbutyl carbamate of formula II in the ratio of the component A to the component B of 0.1/100 to 100/0.01, preferably 200/1 to 1/99. The composition is added to the surface or the interior of a target to be contaminated by bacteria, fungi, algae or their mixture to control the growth of the microorganisms. For example, 0.1ppm to 2% of the composition is added to a coating agent or an impregnant composition, 1-10wt.% of the component is added to a marine antifouling composition, 0.1ppm to 2% of the composition is added to a medical pharmacological composition, 0.1-1,000ppm of the composition is added to a pulp or paper manufacturing process, 0.1-1,000ppm of the composition is added to water for cooling tower, 0.1ppm to 2% of the composition is added to a metal working fluid and 0.1ppm to 1% of the composition is added to a cosmetic formulated substance. |
