摘要 PURPOSE:To correctly calculate the present position and advance direction of a vehicle by calculating the displacement angle of the vehicle from the angular velocity of the vehicle detected by an angular velocity detecting means, and calculating the present position coordinates of the vehicle based on the shift distance of the vehicle calculated by a distance detecting means with the latest present position coordinates used as a reference and the present advance direction. CONSTITUTION:A GPS receiver 1 receiving the information from the GPS position and outputting the position measurement coordinates (a) and the position measurement flag (c) indicating whether position measurement is currently made or not, an optical fiber gyroscope 3 constituting an angular velocity detecting means outputting the voltage proportional to the rotation angular velocity of a vehicle, and a vehicle speed sensor 5 detecting the travel distance of the vehicle are provided. The information from these elements is fed to a computer 7, the present position coordinates and advance direction of the vehicle are calculated and fed to a central computer 9. The computer 9 reads from a map data memory section 13 the map data of the present position of the vehicle fed from the computer 7 and displays them on a display 11.
