PURPOSE:To control reaction conditions and liquid feeding conditions of a reaction mixture to the next step and obtain the objective substance by estimat ing the composition of a reaction mixture, saturation dissolution temperature, etc., of bisphenol A by using a computer in reacting the phenol with acetone. CONSTITUTION:Phenol and acetone are reacted in the presence of an acidic catalyst in a continuous or a batchwise reactor to afford bisphenol A. In the process, (1) the flow rates and compositions of the raw materials, catalyst and circulating liquids fed to the continuous flow type reactor and (2) conditions including the liquid surface and temperature of the reaction mixture are inputted through sensors and signal circuits installed in the production system to a computer. (3) The composition of the reaction mixture and the saturation solubility and slurry concentration of the adduct of the bisphenol A with phenol are estimated with the computer. (4) The resultant estimate is compared with the set value to control the feed rates of the raw materials and catalyst and the taking out rate of the reaction mixture so that crystals of the aforementioned adduct may not deposited or the slurry temperature may be kept constant. Thereby, the objective bisphenol A is produced. |
