PURPOSE:To stably produce a monoalkylbenzene or a dialkylbenzene in high selectivity and yield and facilitate recovery and reutilization of a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:Benzene is reacted with a 2-5C olefin as an alkylating agent in the liquid phase in the presence of a heteropoly-acid and/or a heteropoly-acid salt as a catalyst to produce a monoalkylbezene from the benzene or a dialkylbenzene is produced from the monoalkylbenzene.
