The modem for baseband which is the subject of the invention is serial-data transmission equipment which combines the following characteristics: - Operating mode: 4-wire full duplex in point-to-point configuration. - Transmission speed: 48, 56, 64 and 72 kbit/s. - Transmission type: synchronous serial. - Type of modulation: baseband. - Type of coding: two-phase differential. - Equalisation: automatic, for amplitude distortion. - Test facilities: loops 2 and 3 local, and loop 2 remote. In accordance with recommendation V54 of the CCITT. - Inclusion of self-test facility, in which the modem transmits a known sequence of bits, expecting to receive the same sequence and being capable of detecting the errors present therein. <IMAGE>
