PURPOSE:To employ an optical fiber for an optical system so as to realize easier handling or adjustment and at the same time to easily change an optical power or pulse width by only changing the characteristics or length of a fiber doped with rare-earth-element. CONSTITUTION:The output from an excitation optical source 2 is inputted into an optical multiplexer 3 so that an optical loop may be composed of the optical multiplexer 3, an optical fiber 1 containing rare-earth elements, an optical demultiplexer 4, an optical switch 5A, an isolator 7 and input terminal 3B of the multiplexer 3. When the switch 5A is turned on for a short time, the optical loop will generate a large output of optical pulse, which can be picked up from the output terminal 4B of the demultiplexer 4. |
