Process for the manufacture of a spunlace nonwoven sheet based on cotton fibres, which consists in, continuously: - moving forward a sheet (1) based on cotton fibres, - interlacing (2, 3) these fibres with the aid of a plurality of jets of water under pressure, - drying (8) this interlaced sheet, - and, finally, taking up (10) the spunlace sheet (9) thus obtained, characterised: - in that after the interlacing (2, 3), and before the drying (8), the free water present in the interlaced sheet (4) is wrung out (5); - in that this wrung sheet is then impregnated (6) with an aqueous solution of a polyamide-amine-epichlorohydrin (PAE) resin in a proportion, measured as dry products, of 0.2 % to 1 % of the weight of the cotton fibres; - and in that, after the excess solution has been squeezed out, the impregnated sheet (7) is dried (8) at a temperature which is sufficient to at least initiate the crosslinking of the deposited PAE resin. <IMAGE>
