PURPOSE:To improve the use efficiency of light, and to use the substrate for a projection type liquid crystal display, as well by providing a light non-transmissive film like a lattice, and an array of optical elements having a condensing function, on one surface and the other surface, respectively by relating both of them and by a specific constitution. CONSTITUTION:On one surface, a light non-transmissive film 32 is provided like a lattice at a prescribed pitch, and on the surface of the opposite side, an array of optical elements 36 having a condensing function is provided in relation to the light non-transmissive film 32, and an array pitch P of the optical elements 36 is larger than a frame pitch Q of the light non-transmissive film 32. Accordingly, as indicated with an arrow, in an incident light, light which is made incident on a main area 38 of each optical element 36 passes through an opening part 34 between the light non- transmissive films 32, and is made incident on a liquid crystal. Also, in the incident light, light which is made incident on a peripheral area 40 of each optical element 36 is condensed as indicated with an arrow of a broken line and refracted in the center direction, passes through the side of the light non-transmissive film 32, and is made incident on the liquid crystal. In such a way, in the case a substrate 20 is used, the use efficiency of light can be improved. |
