This device (30) is intended to be plugged into a Minitel terminal (32) so as to constitute a first-level microcomputer. It includes a microprocessor (36), a memory containing conversion software (56-58-60) suitable for interpreting the arbitrary intermediate code representing the application software (52) stored in the permanent memory (38) and/or temporary memory (40). Loading software (50) is provided for loading or remotely loading application software. The use of such an intermediate code makes it possible to develop once and for all a conversion software item.
