Process for the selective hydrogenation of a carbon-carbon bond in a nitrated unsaturated organic compound, in a solvent, in the presence of a catalyst consisting of a ruthenium complex dissolved in the solvent; an amine, an aminophosphine, a diphosphine iminium salt or/and a mixed phosphine is preferably added to the reaction mixture.
