METHOD AND DEVICE FOR RECOGNIZING PATTERN

PURPOSE:To shorten processing time without deteriorating detection precision by comparing/collating only a similar reference pattern selected in primary recognition and finally checking it with a prescribed method in secondary recognition. CONSTITUTION:A primary recognition processing step #56 comparing the characteristic parameters of the pictures binarized in a processing step #55 as to an objective pattern and a previously stored reference pattern is executed, and a secondary recognition processing is executed after a step #58 by comparison-collating the objective pattern with the reference pattern whose characteristic parameter coincides by more than the prescribed value in the primary recognition processing.
