This invention relates to new 2-(phenyl-2,4,5- substituted) hydantoin compounds, their intermediates and use of the said compounds in the control of weeds. More specifically this invention relates to a compound of formula I: <IMAGE> where R1 is H, C1-4 alkyl, C2-4 alkenyl or halo, R2 is H or halo, R3 is OH, oxo, C2-5 alkanoyloxy, C1-4 alkyl sulphonyloxy, C1-4 alkoxy, C1-4 alkylenedioxy or halo, R4 is H or halo, R5 is e.g. halo, cyano or C1-4 alkyl, R6 is e.g. halo, NO2 or NH2, X1 and X2 are O or S independently of each other and n and m are independently of each other 1 or 2. A process for the preparation of these compounds is also mentioned.
