Steam boiler fired with pulverised brown coal - uses combustion gases to dry coal and reduce nitrous oxide content of gases discharged to atmosphere

A steam boiler is fired with brown coal which has a high water content. The coal is stored in a bunker (1) connected by a duct (2) to a preliminary crusher (3). The coal then flows through the drier (5) where it is supplied with steam from the turbine through a pipe (6). The dried coal then flows to the pulveriser (9) which incorporates a fan. The fan generates an air stream in which the pulverised coal is suspended and is transported to the burner (12) of the combustion chamber (13). The pulverised fuel is dried partly by combustion gases supplied by the fan (24) and partly by air which has been heated by the combustion gases in the heat exchanger (15). USE/ADVANTAGE - Boiler fired by pulverised brown coal. The combustion gases have a low nitrous oxide content.
