Artificial kidney with a semipermeable membrane consists of two filters, in two series or parallel, and partly or completely separate filtrate chambers; the one such chamber is connected directly and hydrodynamically to the veins; the more highly concentrated blood is passed from that part to a transfer membrane where osmotic equalisation between the blood and ultrafiltrate from the other filter takes place by the counter or similar flow principle and as the bases for urine formation. Two filters (1,2) and transfer zone (3) are in series. Of these the first dialysis membrane (1) produces the ultrafiltrate (5) which is passed by later connection (4) from the second filter zone to the inner side of the transfer zone (3). The second filter zone (2) has high permeability for liq. and produces an ultrafiltrate which is passed by the connection (7) to the veins. ADVANTAGE - The prod. is highly efficient for removing poisons from organisms. Appts. is simplified.
