The tooth is inserted in an open top casting mould and heated, and molten coating material is applied to the heated tooth in the mould to form a projecting bead. The projecting bead of molten coating material is immediately levelled off to fill the casting mould completely. Only sufficient coating material is applied to the tooth for the mould to be completely filled by levelling the projecting bead of molten material by a mechanical wiper, directional compressed air jet or applied magnetic force. Appropriate appts. for the execution of the method is also claimed. USE/ADVANTAGE - Provides an improved method of hard metal coating the teeth of cutting tools, esp. saw blades, with a redn. in the vol. of surplus coating material and savings in tooth grinding and coating material consumption.
