The ducts are parallel to its axis and are located underneath the roll surface. The ducts accommodate a thermal transfer medium to effect the heating. The roll body is connected to flange pivots on both sides and the roll end plane areas encircled by the duct outlets are setback in relation to the opposite base areas of the flange pivots with the formation of a gap extending as far as the duct outlets. Pref. central supply and discharge bores are provided leading to the gaps.
