The electrode lead (5) is secured to a pacemaker terminal (1) at its proximal end (4) and has an electrode head at its distal end anchored in the heart tissue for supplying the stimulation pulses to the heart. The fixing system for securing the electrode lead to the pacemaker terminal has at least one element (7) made of a metal alloy which alters its shape in response to a tem-. variation. Pref. the lead terminal has a coupling sleeve (3) receiving the proximal end of the electrode lead and containing a ring of a shape-memory-metal, fitting into an annular groove (6) in the electrode lead. The pacemaker (2) and the proximal electrode end are heated after implantation of the electrode lead, e.g. by body heat, to return the ring to its original shape for secure fixing of the electrode lead.
