To reduce the technical process complexity in an egg collecting installation with an egg counter, it is proposed to form the metering devices (4) for isolating and transmitting the eggs (11) produced from the collector belts (2) which convey the eggs (11) from the laying batteries to paternoster-like collector belt (5) as shafts rotatable about their longitudinal axis (18) having egg recesses (17) open in the radial direction and to adjust the revolution speed of the metering device (4) to the rate of conveyance of the paternoster-like collector belt (5) in such a way that certain egg-trays (7) of which the individual members (6) of the collector belt (5) consist are allocated to each collector belt (2). The collector belt (5) and the metering devices (4) are actuated by the same drive. If the egg trays (7) are suitably marked, it is possible with the aid of only one contactless proximity switch (15) for counting and identifying the egg trays (7) of the collector belt (5) and a corresponding counting device (12) for counting the eggs (11) not only to find the total number of eggs (11) laid but also to allocate the eggs to the individual collector belts (2) or rows of cages. The egg collecting installation (1) is thus less liable to breakdowns as a whole and operates with greater counting accuracy. The counter results found may be graphically displayed via a computer or fed into a central EDP installation.
