Surface grinding of two parallel surfaces esp. vehicle brake discs - using fine final finishing phase after partial retraction of tools to receive stress

The two parallel sides (3, 4) of a workpiece are finished simultaneously by two grinding heads (5, 6) operating in opposing directions. The grinding action is stopped before the final finish position and the heads withdrawn sufficiently to relieve stress in the grinding surfaces and the supports. The final cycle provides the fine finish. The retraction action is simultaneous, as is the re-application of the grinding heads. If the initial grinding action is not even, then one head is stopped at the first refeernce position to enable the slower head to catch up. ADVANTAGE - Accurate grinding finish, simple precision control.
