Vehicle body adhesive bond - has corrugations along inserted part matching width of U=shaped trough with adhesive at the other part

The adhesive bonding between two components, esp. vehicle body parts, the edge (5) of the component to be inserted into the U shaped trough (3) containing the adhesive is structured with corrugations. The spread of the corrugation matches the width of the U-shaped trough (3), and the comb lines run along the line of the joint movement of the parts (1,2) to be joined together, e.g. the end wall and the body. The corrugations are pref. formed to give a triangular or rectangular profile, or they can follow a serpentine path. One of the parts (1) to be bonded can have a profiled inner edge, directly at the bonding zone, parallel to and matching the corrugations formed in the other part (2) to be bonded. ADVANTAGE - The bond gives a firm and stable adhesion between the two parts and also keeps them in their required relative positions while the adhesive is hardening.
