The machine has at least one indicating device with an electro-mechanically driven symbol holder, rotating behind a transparent window, and showing at least one symbol to represent the result of the play and usually a combination of symbols which are controlled in a random fashion. The indicating device consists of a carousel, a rotating wheel which carries a series of cards or displays, hinged on the hub, and which flip over as the wheel rotates. The wheel is turned in one direction only and faces the window, with a projection at the top to hold a card for some instants, but then the card, after remaining visible in the window for a few seconds, is forced past the projection for the next card to be held. Each card has a symbol represented on it. The whole arrangement, with driving gears and so on, including the card carousel, is contained in a housing and the design caters for a series of such arrangements, each with a carousel, housed in a succession of cabinets, all part of one console.
