The cutting blade system at a sewing machine e.g. for pocket openings, where the ends of a straight cut are extended outwards by angled cuts to form V-shapes at the ends, has a pair of cutting blades below the fabric on a holder. Each blade has a cutting edge at an angle to the geometric movement axis to form the angled cut when the blade is moved upwards. An adjustment sets the swing angle of the blade round its geometric axis and a drive moves each blade up and down on its axis. The length of the angled cuts, at the ends of the straight cut, are set to determine the highest setting for the point of the cutting edge to establish the cutting edge length to be used, when the blade is moved upwards. ADVANTAGE - The length and angular pitch of the angled cuts can be set easily by the user.
