<p>The guard-rail for a vehicle-carrying road-unit is mounted on a sliding extension (6) for extending the upper loading platform (5), the displacement of which for extension and then retraction drives, on deployment then on retraction, the long thin links of two guard-rails (15) along each longitudinal edge (7) of the upper platform (5).
