An acoustic attenuating material is formed by placing a stack of layers in a press, the stack comprising, for example, a glass fibre pad 16 which is quilted with stitching 22; an acoustic barrier layer 12 of thermoplastic material; and a fire/gas resistant layer 14 which includes for example either a plastics sub-layer 26 and an aluminium sub-layer 28 sandwiching therebetween a reinforcing network of glass textile threads 24 or a polyvinyl chloride coated glass scrim. The stack of layers is pressed together and heat is applied, which causes the stitching 22 to become embedded in the acoustic barrier layer 12 and also causes the ridges on the fire/gas resistant layer 14 to become keyed into the acoustic barrier layer 12. <IMAGE> |
