PURPOSE:To enable stable operation by controlling stabilization treatment by heating before baking when an org. fiber sheet contg. an impregnated org. polymer is baked to produce a porous carbon sheet. CONSTITUTION:A sheet is made of 30-90wt.% polyacrylonitrile fibers and 10-70wt.% pulp and/or other org. fibers, an org. polymer is impregnated into the sheet by 20-160wt.% (expressed in terms of solid matter) and the sheet is dried and subjected to stabilization treatment by heating in an atmosphere of oxidizing gas. At this time, heating rate in the temp. range of 195-205 deg.C is regulated to 1/15-1/3 ( deg.C/hr) of the thickness (diameter expressed by mum) of the polyacrylonitrile fibers. The treated sheet is baked at >=800 deg.C in an atmosphere of inert gas. |
