In the case of a packaging bag (1) made of flexible material at least one of the two ends of the bag is closed by a cross end or gusseted end (5) having corner turn-ins (6, 7) lying in pairs opposite each other and side folds (8, 9). To carry the bag (1) in the filled state a carrying handle is provided in the form of a handle strip (10) which runs in the longitudinal direction of the end approximately in the outer end plane, is secured by its end regions to the end (1) and has a carrying strap (12) which can be pulled up by hand from the end (1). The handle strip (10) is secured by its end regions (11) on the outside of at least one of the two side folds (8, 9) and the carrying strip (12) has a material storage fold (21) which is inserted in a Z-shape into the handle strip (10) and can be unfolded when pulled up from the end (5).
